Saturday's Song. Slow Stitching Sunday. Stash Report.

Saturday's Song
Sometimes we feel what we have done is
too bad,
too wrong,
too big
for God to forgive.
Or perhaps you know someone who is trapped by this lie of the enemy.
I do.
And here's my response.  Jordan Feliz' song, Never Too Far Gone.

Here's a basic printable of the lyrics, just in case you would like to send this to someone.

Sometimes, a hard copy is what's needed so that it can be read over and over again.
My Precious One, this Scripture got me through,
gets me through
and
will continue to get me through my past mistakes.

It can do the same for you.
Believe it, if only with
mustard seed faith,
believe it.

God will do the rest.

Slow Stitching Sunday
These ornaments are on my radar as December 1 is quickly approaching!

My Slow Stitching usually always includes crochet as well.  I've been working on these cowls that will be sold at a Silent Auction to raise funds for Patrick.  If you read my posts with the label "Patrick's Strength", you will learn about his journey.

He and his mom are still in Houston as he undergoes a rigorous treatment for bone cancer.  So much for this 16-year-old to deal with!

Yes, you read right - I won a grand prize from my local quilt shop - Bernina Sewing and Design!  It was a kit filled with enough fabric to make a queen size quilt top!  It's low volume fabrics - not at all what I normally choose, but it would work in my bedroom....I'll be sharing that soon!  UPDATE:  You can see it here!

Phliippians 4:4 Part 2. Patrick's Strength. Glue Basting Tutorial. Book Date.

Philippians 4:4 Part 2
Part 1
Scripture

Application con't.
Yesterday we defined rejoice, joy and noted the section in red. Joy - and the ability to rejoice always - comes from God!

I certainly could not have rejoiced through many of my challenges without Him!  I remember when we discussed
joy and Philippians 2:11.  His joy is our strength.

To the best of our abilities,
let us not grieve
past hurts,
present challenges
or
future fears.

Let us draw on God's joy
so that we may be
healed from past hurts,
strengthened to face present challenges
and
have courage to face our future with faith-filled hearts and minds.

Prayers
LORD, so much is happening in our world.  Sometimes I feel bombarded with all I see around me.  It becomes hard to rejoice.  It becomes hard to praise You.

You are so faithful and patient.  You remind me to turn on praise and worship music.  Sooner rather than later, my faith is rejuvenated.  Your precious Word is filled with reassurances and hope.  Thank You, Abba for these gifts of encouragement and hope!
Amen!

Patrick's Strength

Patrick received his afghan!  How exciting is that!  His mom sent me this picture of it laying on his bed.  I purposely made the afghan a bit narrower than most so it could be used on a hospital bed without interfering with the controls.  I am moved beyond words.......
She gave me permission to share it!  Wasn't that sweet of her!  Please continue your prayers as his situation is extremely serious.

Glue Basting

UPDATED 7/24/17:
Glue Basting or Spray Basting
Yes!  I used the wrong term!  It's spray basting!  Sorry - newbie mistake!
I don't often quilt my own quilts.  They usually go to my dear Stephanie.  My daughter quilts my baby quilts.  On the very rare occasion that I quilt my own quilts, I glue baste them - a process my daughter taught me.  She uses a 505 Spray Adhesive.  I picked up a can of Spray 'n Bond Adhesive with a coupon.

I love it because it is so much friendlier to my hands than pinning.  I haven't used this process enough to say it's perfect - but it works for me!

Here's how I do it!

1) Lay out a twin sized top sheet (for a baby quilt) or some other covering to protect your surface.  I spread it out on my cutting table to protect the surface and my yarn  stash(it hangs on the side of the table). Spread out your backing, right side down on the sheet smoothing away any wrinkles/bumps.
2) I roll up the batting.  Then spray a coat of adhesive to about the first 9" of the backing.  Carefully lay out your batting over the sprayed section.

3) Spray another 9" or so.  Spread out your batting.  Repeat this process until  your batting is completely laid out!

Now, I forgot to take pictures of the next steps, but it's basically the same.
Roll up your quilt top.
Spray about 9" of your batting.
Carefully lay out your quilt top on the sprayed batting, smoothing it down.
Repeat the process until you have basted the entire quilt top.  UPDATED 7/24/17
TO INCLUDE THIS PIC!

You are now ready to quilt!

As always I'm interested in your comments and suggestions! Please share your thoughts and experiences with glue basting in the comments!

Book Date:  Younger Next Year Part 2
Currently I'm reading Younger Next Year by Chris Crowley and Henry S. Lodge, M.D. I'm on chapter 7 and thus far the authors have made a convincing argument for daily exercise - exercise that makes us sweat.  Albeit, it was a bit detailed for my tastes but I was convinced!  I'll keep you appraised of my progress with this read.  Granted I may be doing some skimming rather than reading......  :)

Philippians 4:3. Patrick's Strength. To Do Tuesday

Philippians 4:3
Scripture
Observation
Paul is asking a mystery companion to assist in the reconciliation of these two ladies.
Application
I wonder....if I was one of these two women, what would I do?  How would I feel after hearing Paul's plea?

In a church we attended when my kids were teens, there was a time of contention between myself and anther person.  The conflict was regarding our kids.....

At that time, the mama bear in me was roaring to fight and defend my kids....

To this day I stiffen at how the whole situation was handled by our pastor.

Sure there are times when we are wrong and must take responsibility and ask for forgiveness.  But...what if we are the ones wronged?

First and foremost, God's Word and His work in me led to a new maturity.   The book, A Tale of Three Kings A Study in Brokeness by Gene Edwards helped me through this time.  Mr. Edwards' work helped me to heal and grow in grace.
Finally, the slogans of a 12 Step Program have helped.

We who make up the church are only human.
We will hurt others.
We will be hurt.

LET US NOT BLAME GOD FOR THIS!

He is not human and His heart breaks to see these situations!

If we hurt others, let us seek forgiveness and reconciliation!

If we have been hurt, let us seek healing and forgiveness.

Let us remember:

Prayer
Oh boy, LORD!  That was a tough trip down Memory Lane!  Thank You for showing me how You have worked so diligently and deeply in my life!  You have brought me so far!

Those times still bother me, but I now know that if I were to see those people again I could genuinely smile and greet them with Your love and concern for their welfare!  That in itself is a great miracle!

Thank You my LORD and Savior!  Bless those who are hurting/have hurt others.  Bring unity and healing to our country, hurting people and especially in our churches.

I love You so, LORD!  Thank You for loving me - even when I wasn't very lovable!

Amen.

Liebster Award!

Liebster Award!
Guess what?  Nancy at Grace and Peace Quilting nominated me for the Liebster Award!

Liebster is a German word with many meanings some of which are sweetest, valued and kindest.  This is an award given to bloggers from other bloggers! You can discover more information here! Thank you so much, Nancy!

As part of the process, I'm going to answer a few questions so that you can get to know me better!

If you could meet one quilting personality, who would it be?
I don't know a lot of the bigger names in quilting, but I would love to meet the lovely women I have blessed to meet since I've started this blog!

Who inspired you to sew?
Two people - my aunt and my daughter.  When I was a young teen, my aunt made me a beautiful green dress.  I enjoyed every step of the process!

Later, when my daughter started sewing, I decided to jump in with both feet so that we would have even more to share!

What do you like to do when quilting?
I binge watch Netflix series or listen to Postcasts.  When the going gets tough, I listen to music.  Every night, though, I call my dad.  I've learned so much about his life as I play in me sewing studio.  It's like he's sitting in my rocker keeping me company!

Do you have a favorite snack while quilting?
Not really, but I do drink iced water or iced coffee.

Do you look for quilts when watching movies?
Ha!  There's so much to do when watching TV!  I'm usually crocheting, hand sewing, responding to comments and emails, commenting on other blogs and posting on Instagram!  I try to limit my cruising the net time as I can lose track of time.

Which comes first, fabric or pattern?
For me, it's usally the pattern.  My daughter finds great quilts for us to make.  I also enjoy picking my son's brain for quilts/projects he would like to have!

What is your favorite finish?
By far, my favorite finish is my 2015 $7.50 BOM quilt.  I made it while undergoing chemotherapy for Triple Negative Breast Cancer and presented it as a gift to my husband.  I wanted to thank him for the wonderful care he gave me throughout our journey.

Quilt by hand or machine?
I really prefer to send my larger quilts to Stephanie and the smaller ones to my daughter.  Lately, I have quilted four pieces, three by machine for my "grand-doggy, Marley,
and I'm currently hand quilting a baby quilt.
Favorite color?
Yellow!  When I make a quilt, I love bright, cheerful colors like the ones I used in my Scrappy Sampler!

Favorite notion?
I collect pretty and unusual seam rippers.  If I have to rip, it will be with a fun tool!  :)

Do you work on one quilt at a time or many?
I used to work on a different quilt each day of the week.  I'm learning that for me, it's better to work on one quilt at a time.  I do try to have a day for my BOM blocks and charity blocks.  I slow the pace down on the weekends with slow stitching - hand sewing, crocheting and embroidery.

My current crochet project is for a young man who is fighting for his life as we speak:  Patrick.  Here is the progress on
Patrick's Strength:

Do you have a blog that you just can't miss a post?

Yes!  I read the blogs that I link up to every week as well as a few others I have found via link ups! Today's link ups are also ones I read regularly!

Who would you like to nominate for the Liebster Award?
We can nominate several bloggers.  I have contacted one and there's a few more that I'm contacting today.  I'll keep you posted!

Again, Nancy, thank you so much for this wonderful opprotunity!

Slow Stitching and Saturday's Song.

Slow Stitching Weekend!
Here's my projects!
I was in the mood to make dishcloths!
Here is one from scraps of some I gave away.  I used Lily N Cream white with purple tulle cut into 1" strips.  Yes, you're right, they do get a bit stinky after a day or so.  I simply use a new one every day!  :)  All the more reason to make more!  :)

I made four as gifts, but forgot to take pics of them!

A new baby means another new baby quilt!

This little panel deserves it some
hand quilting......

 Too cute?  Right?

Of course, work continues on

From humble beginnings

To this one from last week!

Saturday's Song
The next few weeks
will be filled with medical tests
in preparation for another 6 month
oncology follow up -
always a nervous time for
cancer survivors.
So, here's a pick me up song!
Be Blessed!
