Thoughtful Tuesdays. Simple Scrappy Sampler Finally Finished! To Do Tuesdays!

Thoughtful Tuesdays

I have a new blog to feature for Thoughtful Tuesday.  It's from The Redbud Post and the title of the post is Wrestling with Why by Julie Kloster.  She is listening to a young lady share her frustrations before she embarks on what will be a challenging missionary trip....  Julie realizes that sharing her own story as a breast cancer survivor is not what is needed.  Instead she listens to her young friend and gives her the tools she will need to find God in her journey!  I encourage you to read her post - and be blessed!

Liebster Award!

Liebster Award!
Guess what?  Nancy at Grace and Peace Quilting nominated me for the Liebster Award!

Liebster is a German word with many meanings some of which are sweetest, valued and kindest.  This is an award given to bloggers from other bloggers! You can discover more information here! Thank you so much, Nancy!

As part of the process, I'm going to answer a few questions so that you can get to know me better!

If you could meet one quilting personality, who would it be?
I don't know a lot of the bigger names in quilting, but I would love to meet the lovely women I have blessed to meet since I've started this blog!

Who inspired you to sew?
Two people - my aunt and my daughter.  When I was a young teen, my aunt made me a beautiful green dress.  I enjoyed every step of the process!

Later, when my daughter started sewing, I decided to jump in with both feet so that we would have even more to share!

What do you like to do when quilting?
I binge watch Netflix series or listen to Postcasts.  When the going gets tough, I listen to music.  Every night, though, I call my dad.  I've learned so much about his life as I play in me sewing studio.  It's like he's sitting in my rocker keeping me company!

Do you have a favorite snack while quilting?
Not really, but I do drink iced water or iced coffee.

Do you look for quilts when watching movies?
Ha!  There's so much to do when watching TV!  I'm usually crocheting, hand sewing, responding to comments and emails, commenting on other blogs and posting on Instagram!  I try to limit my cruising the net time as I can lose track of time.

Which comes first, fabric or pattern?
For me, it's usally the pattern.  My daughter finds great quilts for us to make.  I also enjoy picking my son's brain for quilts/projects he would like to have!

What is your favorite finish?
By far, my favorite finish is my 2015 $7.50 BOM quilt.  I made it while undergoing chemotherapy for Triple Negative Breast Cancer and presented it as a gift to my husband.  I wanted to thank him for the wonderful care he gave me throughout our journey.

Quilt by hand or machine?
I really prefer to send my larger quilts to Stephanie and the smaller ones to my daughter.  Lately, I have quilted four pieces, three by machine for my "grand-doggy, Marley,
and I'm currently hand quilting a baby quilt.
Favorite color?
Yellow!  When I make a quilt, I love bright, cheerful colors like the ones I used in my Scrappy Sampler!

Favorite notion?
I collect pretty and unusual seam rippers.  If I have to rip, it will be with a fun tool!  :)

Do you work on one quilt at a time or many?
I used to work on a different quilt each day of the week.  I'm learning that for me, it's better to work on one quilt at a time.  I do try to have a day for my BOM blocks and charity blocks.  I slow the pace down on the weekends with slow stitching - hand sewing, crocheting and embroidery.

My current crochet project is for a young man who is fighting for his life as we speak:  Patrick.  Here is the progress on
Patrick's Strength:

Do you have a blog that you just can't miss a post?

Yes!  I read the blogs that I link up to every week as well as a few others I have found via link ups! Today's link ups are also ones I read regularly!

Again, Nancy, thank you so much for this wonderful opprotunity!

Philippians 3:17 Part 2. 1 Layer Cake + 1 Charm Pack = 3 Quilts!

Philippians 3:17 Part 2
Part 1 is here.
Remember,
just as we are blessed with our own models,
there is also someone looking for their own model.  Or perhaps someone has noticed  something different about us.  They are wondering what it is.

I want to be the one that can be a model for others
- though at times
I fail...miserably...
Even then I can still be a model -
as I accept God's grace and mercy.
HmRmmm......

As we go through our journey, let's remember who we are and how we were created.

Even as we seek unite to serve Christ, as we seek out models for our faith, as we ourselves are knowingly or unknowingly models and as we seek others who live as we do, we are wonderfully and fearfully made - warts and all.

So, when
we,
our brothers and sisters,
or
our models
appear to fail,
we are still wonderfully made.
And God still sits on the throne.
And all things will still work together for the good (Romans 8:28).

Prayer
LORD, again I feel like this study went around in circle!  Just the same, it makes sense to me.  We look for models of faith and we become models of faith - most times without even realizing it!  When models let others down - as they will because only You are perfect - grace steps in and we all learn.  Father, thank You for the wonderful models You have provided in my life!  Because of them, I know there is "Hope with skin on!"  My hope lies in Jesus, but I'm so grateful You have provided brothers and sisters as my models!  Thank You, Abba, thank You!  Amen!

1 Layer Cake, 3 Quilts Coming Up!
Remember, it
all began with with
the Simple Scrappy Sampler
I had a layer cake and charm pack of Happy Tones!
Added some background fabric, sashing and wala!
https://faithtrustandbreastcancer.blogspot.com/2017/04/philippians-228-part-1-simple-scrappy.html
As you may recall, I made this baby quilt from the scraps and used fabric on hand for the borders and binding!

My daughter just finished quilting it!
on her domestic machine,
and highlighted my blocks.
Then she bound it for me.
Yes, I'm spoiled.  :)
After I post this, I will be making
the label and delivering it this weekend!

Remember the last quilt
I made from these scraps?
Stephanie has it and
will quilt it when she has time.
Since there's no real deadline,
I let her know there was no rush. :)

Maybe you'll visit these link ups?

Philippians 2:28 Part 1. Simple Scrappy Sampler Finished!

Hello There!
Welcome!  As I prepare for today's study on Philippians, my mind is definitely on Good Friday - a day when so many terrible things happened to our Jesus.  This morning on KLOVE radio they were talking about this very thing.  And you know what they said:  It's called Good Friday because we know what happened on Sunday!  Amen!

So, as we soberly remember today, let's keep His victory in mind as well!  :)

Philippians 2:28.
Scripture
Observation
Paul is eager to bless the Philippians with Epaphorditus' presence - proof that he has regained his health!  In doing so, he knows they will be glad and he will have less anxiety.
Application
I found Paul's words in verse 28 interesting....almost compelling.  I had to look back at the previous verses.....Paul didn't say he wants to send back Epaphroditus, but he is eager to send him back to relieve the Philippians of their anxiety.  He will greatly miss his brother, his co-worker and fellow soldier in the LORD.

Sending him back is a sacrifice for Paul.
A sacrifice he is making
while
undergoing
his
own
trials.

At least that's how I'm seeing it.

So, how do I, do we, respond in trials?
Last Sunday our pastor discussed Jesus' suffering and our suffering. (You can listen to it here by downloading the app. Iphone or Android)  In our small group, we reviewed it and were challenged to complete this sentence:

When the going gets tough, the tough ________.

I would change it to this fill-in-the-blank:
When the going get tough,
the faith-filled, but hurting get
___________________________.
How would you complete it?

Prayer
LORD, thank you for the many sacrifices that You, Your Son and all that have come before me made that I might know You.  I know that there are many rejoicing and happy people out there today - and I am one of them!  You have blessed me with love, security, creativity and joy.

But, I am deeply aware of those who are hurting, confused, lonely and in despair today.  Please comfort them and strengthen them!  Help them to come to know You and trust Your ways.

I love you, Abba Father.
Amen.

Simple Scrappy Sampler Finished!

The Simple Scrappy Sampler Flimsy is finished!  Yea!  I dropped it off with Stephanie, my long arm quilter, and her eyes lit up like it was Christmas!  This is another "Chemo Quilt" - a project started while I was in chemo.  I'm loving the bright colors, the variety of blocks, the sashing and, yes, those pesky, playful cornerstones!

Please feel free to share your tips on cornerstones!  In order to improve my skills, I'm going to keep putting them in my quilts!  Your advice would be so appreciated!

My daughter pointed out how pretty a quilt looks from behind with the sun shining through!  Look!

I used a Happy Tones layer cake and charm pack as my main fabric. The white background for the blocks was a a combination of a white on white floral purchased long ago.  I used Muslin Mates White on White Vine for the comenstating strips purchased at Berninia Sewing and Design.  The sashing was Moda Bella Solid in Lavendar - I think.  :)

Thank you all for
your encouraging comments
as I shared this project!

Philippians 2:27 Part 5 A Look Back in Amazement. Simple Scrappy Sampler & A Simple Bday Gift!

Hi there!  Tada!  Here is the final part in our series on Philippians 2:27!  In Part 1 we talked about God's mercy and Paul's use of the word "but" again.  Part 2 discussed the phrase "sorrow upon sorrow".  We continued our discussion of this phase of our lives in Part 3 adding that God uses these times in to grow and strengthen our faith.  I guess in Part 4, I shared how God built our faith in the "sorrow upon sorrow"

Philippians 2:27 Part 5
Scripture

Prayer

My dear LORD and Savior!  How blessed I am by the faith You have grown in my heart.  I'm grateful for Your healing touch - be it here on Earth or in Heaven.

I'm also grateful that Paul used the phrase "sorrow upon sorrow".  It reminds me that as we journey through these valleys, You are there.  We are never alone and our tears are never wasted - not a one.

Thank You that we can trust that our pain is never without purpose.  Help us to have grace, faith and courage during those times!  Amen.

Simple Scrappy Sampler With Sashing!
I just love my local quilt shop!  Via my friends' gentle guidance, they turned what could have been a "ok" quilt into an explosion of Spring and celebration!  I was going to go with with sashing, but I'm loving this purple!  My daughter suggested cornerstones as well.  Though they weren't exactly fun to sew, the final result was well worth the effort!
Soon the whole top will be finished and off to Stephanie!  I'm so grateful that Jennie from Clover and Violet offered this BOM!

A Simple Birthday Gift
This week is my daughter's birthday week!  She will recieve a few small presents all week - and here is one of them!

"A hairy something or another," You ask?  Actually, yes!  It's a dishcloth/scrubbie!  I used an Avalon yarn by Cascade purchased at my local yarn shop, Quillen Fiber Arts!   (They have an online store!)  I added in some of Red Heart's Scrubby Yarn in "Duckie".  It was a nice combination!

I made some a while back as a tester for my daughter.  I figure with four kiddos and a hubby, she would give them a good workout.  She loves the combination and asked for more!

Request completed!

Some regular dishcloths made from the same Avalon yarn are coming her way as well.

A Look Back in Amazement.
I've begun printing out my blog and I still cannot read those posts....it's so painful.  I did skim the first couple of posts and was amazed at the faith God infused my life with!  Here they are just in case you're interested.  Admittedly, they were tough for me to even skim through - and that's ok! I just need more time.  It's amazing how far God has brought me - and will continue to bring me - and you, my dear reader!  You, too, are invited to join hands with Him.

Philippians 2:27 Part 3. Scrappy Sampler Progress!

Hello there!  It's good to see you again!  If this is your first time here, welcome!

This is the Scripture we are looking at this week.  I've broken it down into four parts because the "Application" part of our study is quite long and a bit deep.  In case you're jumping in the middle, in Part 1 we talked about God's mercy and Paul's use of the word "but" again.  Part 2 discussed the phrase "sorrow upon sorrow".  We'll continue on this discussion today.
Application con't
In your life's journey, have you encountered situations where it seemed like God didn't heal?
like you were experiencing "sorrow upon sorrow"?

I have.
I have seen pain in my own life - some self-inflicted, some inflicted upon me, some is just life.
Sadly,
I have seen loved ones die from illness.
I have seen friends mourn the deaths of their loved ones.
It seems so confusing when it appears that God has chosen not to heal.

A friend was praying for a young man who passed away last week from lung and brain cancer.  He left behind a loving wife and three children.  His six-year-old daughter said, "I want to talk to my daddy.  I'm only six years old.  This isn't fair."

And she's right.  During these times in our lives, it's truly a faith walk.  I have found that if I'm I'm honest with God in those times as well, He get me through with victory.  Sometimes, it takes time to feel victorious, but it happens!

Take heart my dear reader - especially if you seem to be in this situation!  I hear your pain!

Prayer
God, sometimes I don't understand Your will. Sometimes I do get angry with You, I get frustrated and scared.  But, You have brought me through much pain, sorrow and fear!  And, my dear Abba Father,
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.
Genesis 50:20 | image tagged in ocean | made w/ Imgflip meme makerYou have been so gracious to show me how You used many of these situations (even my own mistakes!) for Your glory!
Because of that, I have greater faith and strength and I know the victory is mine! Thank You Abba Father!
Amen.

Scrappy Sampler Progress!
I really wanted this layout for my Simple Scrappy Sampler, but it would make the quilt bigger than I wanted.
So this is my new layout!
I'm really liking the
purple sashing and plan to add cornerstones to the horizontal sashing (as suggested by my daughter)!
Hopefully this will be a flimsy

by the end of the week!
