Psalm 12:3, Fiber Fun and a video! Literary Life and Finding Joy

Hello There,

Welcome!  I hope you are doing well today!  This past week was so busy! I had a couple of gatherings with friends and a few doctor appointments. The friends were fun; the doctors... not so much.

Philippians 4:8 Part 1. Sewing Studio Tour Part 7. A Scrappy Finish.

Philippians 4:8 Part 1
Part 2 Part 3
Scripture
Observation
A list of what we should think about....do you sometimes have stinky thinking?  I know I do.  Here is our solution.  Right in verse 8.

Application
Here's my application:
It's not very pretty - it's part of an unedited paint chip card.
Oh, I've written about making various types of Scripture Memorization cards here and here.  I even made a Portable Prayer Journal.

But this one is different.
It's real.
It's simply what God wants me to learn.
It's not about pretty this time. It's about God and how He wants to grow me.
I'm not going to make it pretty, Instead, I'm going to make this Scripture a part of my heart.

Prayer
LORD, thank You for our Small Group meeting tonight.  You spoke to my heart and made me see the urgency of spending less time on my phone and more time with You.  I so appreciate that.  You and I have talked about this before, but now there is a sense of urgency that is clearly showing me where to walk, what to see, what to focus on.  So, here we go again, You leading me, me following You.  Thank You for speaking so clearly to me that sometimes we just need to focus on Your message, Your heart.  Amen!

Covered in Love July Blocks
I made these blocks for Kat's Covered in Love June/July block drive.  The theme was star blocks in red, white and blue - totally appropriate for summer!

The pattern is so pretty!  It's called Hunter's Star and the tutorial is over at Delaware Quilts.

A Scrappy Finish
I had a few HST blocks left over, so I made this table topper.  I joined the blocks, added in the setting triangles, did in some strip sewing added in the talents of a daughter who quilts and wala!  A patriotic table topper!
The cool part is that it's reversible, so I can use it for Christmas as well!  And even cooler is that the white fabric GLOWS IN THE DARK!

Sewing Studio Tour Part 7
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6
This is where the magic happens!
My actual sewing area has four pieces of furniture, to include the latest addition - a genuine Bernina chair!

Both tables have rolling wheels on them.  The piece on the left opens up to store my containers of scraps for my Crazy Quilt that I will finish "one day".

It also serves as a mini cutting/ironing table.
So that's where my cream is!
Mia and Sammy
share their carpet!

Here's my actual sewing table.
It's long enough to piece a large quilt top.  Please notice the prescription bottle on the right side.  It has a hole drilled into the lid.  I place my dull/bend pins/needles in there as well as my dull rotary blades.

This storage unit is also on wheels
and opens up in a very cool way!

The top can be partially opened to reveal sewing accessories
or

it opens completely so I can actually lift out my Brother Embroidery machine!

This furniture was a long time in the making.  Some friends generously offered to help us design my sewing furniture.
The four of us collaborated on it and then our husbands put in many long hours to make it a reality!

Philippians 4:1 Part 2/2. I Like! Studio Tour Part 6: Increasing Crafting Productivity and Storage Tip Mini Tutorial

Philippians 4:1 Part 2/2
Scripture

Observation
In Part 1, we discussed Paul's love for the Philippians and how this verse could be a prayer. I would now like to look at Paul's instructions to stand firm in the LORD "in this way".
Application
In what way?  By keeping in mind that our citizenship is in Heaven (Philippians 3:20)? Yes and no.  I believe Paul is refering to the entire letter.  He gave so much instruction on living out our faith in this letter!  We could go in chronological and focus on applying one aspect a week and be challenged!  Yes, I believe he is focusing on the entire letter.

What do you think?

Prayer
Thank You, LORD, for this wonderful letter and insight....I wonder if that is the new path You have for us?

You have been so generous with Your insights and guidance.  My heart is filled with gratitude and humbleness.

Thank You, my dear Abba!

I Like!
Have you participated in Leann's of Not Afraid of Color I Like Thursdays?  I encourage you to give it a try!
Here's my likes from this week!
My theme is
rescuing plants
and gardens that not only survive,
but thrive!

These four plants were dying at my local hardware store!  In fact, the Devil's Ivy had black leaves!  But, with a bit of TLC, they came back stronger and better than ever.....sort of like people......

This little garden always struggled, even though it had a drip system in it.  But now look at it!  It needed a bit more TLC in the form of more water (more nozzles) and better soil.  Sometimes we have to provide a bit of extra for those who are hurting.....

Consequently, the tree in the same garden took off and is now providing much needed shade from our 100+ degree temperatures to the garden below!

Amazing what a bit of
TLC can accomplish!

Studio Tour Part 6: Increasing Crafting Productivity and Storage Tip
Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5
This is they side of my sewing studio where the magic happens!  Or the frustration - depending on the circumstances!  :)

By the way, this is an unedited picture!

This little project board keeps me on task with current project and wish list projects.  Due to it's small size,
I don't get overwhelmed!
It's made from a left over 4'X8' foam board
we picked up
from our local hardware store.
I just covered it with flannel.
My granddaughter decorated the edges and my projects, materials, patterns
and such went in the middle.

I usually print out my To Do Tuesday (from Stitching All Things)
and pin that up there as well.
That helps me stay focused,
organized and productive!
And yes,
I do go off on rabbit trails once in a while - depending on the rabbit of course!

I store all those little bits and bobs we use in these little containers.  It's easy to do:
Materials:
Several Dollar Tree cookie sheets and packages of storage containers
(I uses squarish ones because more fit on the cookie sheet.)
magnets
glue gun and glue

1.  Glue the magnets on the lids of your containers.
2.  Gather all your bits and bobs that are floating around your sewing space.
3.  cover your containers and place them lid down on the cookie sheets.
4.  You can now see all your stuff and it's attached to one place.  I simply stack my cookie sheets when not in use!
Cool, huh?

Philippians 3:20. Yea! Pretzel Quilt! Sewing Studio Tour Part 5. Patrick's Strength

Philippians 3:20
Scripture

Observation
Yes, what hope we have in Jesus!
Application
What a great contrast from v. 19!  I am so grateful for God's mercy and grace!  He saved me - He had mercy on me all those years ago through today!  And my hope is in Him!
Prayer
Thank You, Abba, for this tremendous hope that You have given me!  I cry out with joy and praise to You!  Today I will rejoice in this hope, even as I pray for those who have yet to receive it!  Thank You, my LORD! Amen.

Yea!  Pretzel Quilt!
Guess what!!!
Susan from Quilt Fabrication
featured the finished flimsy

So excited!
Thank you, Susan!

Sewing Studio Tour Part 5:
Daddy's Chest of Drawers
This is what I have from my childhood home -
my dad's chest of drawers.
He and I were -
and remain very close.
I'm grateful to
have this piece of Dad.

I store storage items, scrap batting, sewing accessories, adhesives, finished projects and miscellaneous supplies here.

I decided to store my fat quarters in a very visible location.  You see, I don't really use them, but if they're visible I will - and I want to use them all up.  In the future, I plan to purchase 1/4 yard cuts vs. fat quarters because they are more economical.

I also want to use them up so that I can store my binding maker and other sewing machines on top of these drawers.  They will be much more accessible and therefore used more often!  :)

This is how I store my hand quilting frame and hoop and my traveling project case.  I try to make use of every inch of space!

Here's some flannels I picked up at 60% off.  I liked Susan's idea (from Quilt Fabrication) of using these for a backing!

My artist friend, Victoria J. Culbertson painted and generously gifted these mini paintings to my husband and I.

And there you have it - one of my favorite parts of my sewing studio!

Patrick's Strength
Not a lot of sewing is getting done, but I am continuing to make progress on Patrick's Strength.  If you recall, he is the young teen diagnosed with cancer.  It will be a long road for this young man and his family.

Philippians 3:10-11 Part 1/2 Studio Tour Part 4 - Organizing Miscellaneous Supplies

Philippians 3:10-11 Part 1/2
Scripture
Observation
Paul's desperation to know and become like Christ is clearly expressed in these verses!  His reason is simple:  he wants a spiritual and moral resurrection, as  expressed in the Amplified Version!

Application
Today, this verse reminds me of Philippians 1:9-11, which I see as a prayer for my loved ones.  To me, Philippians 3:10 could also be a prayer for our loved ones.  I don't know, I just sense a desperation in Paul in verses 10-11 to really, deeply know Christ.

I have to ask myself?  Do I have this same desire?  Yes, I pray Philippians 1:9-11 for my family and loved ones, but have I prayed it for MYSELF?  I fear not.

But, all is not lost!  Our next post will show you why!  Take heart, my dear reader!

To Be Continued!

Studio Tour Part 4 - Organizing Miscellaneous Supplies
I hope you're enjoying my Studio Tour! It's fun to read your comments and learn how you organize your space!
Thus far we've covered fabric storage, organizing those miscellaneous cuts of fabric and my amazing purchase of a "bit" of embroidery floss!

Today I want to show you how I organize the slightly larger supplies that some sewists keep in stock.

This means a revisit to my rolling storage drawers.  If you notice, I label a lot of items.  For me, it's a necessity because if "I can't see it, it doesn't exist."

Here's where I store my bits of adhesive, Velcro, and rope that I use for the kiddo's drawstring toy bags.
Looking at this drawer, there are things in there I haven't touched in a while....perhaps time for a good purging.

I love this drawer to contain my purse hardware!

Everyone has a button drawer/box or something, right?

Here is where I keep things that need to be framed as well as precious mementos.  See my son's shoe peeking out at you?  Hmmm....that pattern from my chemotherapy days should probably be donated!  I probably embroidered the piece on top in 1983.  That's my son when he was 1, I think?
Here's the crocheted piece underneath.

I copied it many years ago from a pillow my husband's grandmother had crocheted.  The "gallo" (rooster) is special to us.  Like most babies, my husband would wake at the crack of dawn crying, so my father-in-law dubbed him, "El gallito" (Little Rooster).  I really should frame those two pieces!

Philippians 3:4. Studio Tour Pt. 2 - Miscellaneous Fabric Storage Magic!

Philippians 3:4
Scripture
Observation
As we discussed during Philippians 3:3, we don't need physical marks on our body to serve Christ.  Our confidence should not be placed in such things.  However, for those who believe they have reasons to put their confidence in the flesh, Paul is preparing to strengthen his argument, as we shall see in verse 5.
Application
Our confidence should be placed in Christ, in our Abba Father,
not in our flesh!
Bible | For in Him we live and move and have our being.'
As some of your own poets have said, 'We are his offspring.' Acts 17:28 | image tagged in bible | made w/ Imgflip meme maker

I would be utterly lost if I forgot this lesson!
Furthermore, we should listen to our fellow brothers and sisters who have travailed much in the LORD!  Their faith is has been proved over and over!

In now way am I saying that those who have not suffered have a weaker faith! NO!!!
I am saying, that when
He has been proved o'er and o'er,
faith can grow.
I truly believed my faith was strong
in 2014 - until November 2014.
From then until today,
my faith has grown beyond measure.
Yes, my dear,
breast cancer was one of the biggest blessings - and trials - of my life.
Now I can sing the above song
with my whole heart -
and know the cost.

Prayer
Father, I trusted You before, but now...
whew!  I really trust You!
I'm grateful for the opprotunity
to grow in You!
Let us listen with rapt hearts and praise
to those who have gone through so much,
such as Paul,
and come out stronger on the other side!

I'm also grateful for those who have not known great pain - though they may be few.  I truly believe we all have a story to tell and how I love listening to how You have worked in the lives of others!

Life is good, Father.
You amaze me with Your ways and wisdom.

I pray that I learn to listen to others
with deeper understanding
rejoicing with those who rejoice
and
praying with those who mourn.

I pray victory in the lives of all who read this!

You're so awesome, Abba!
You certainly are!
Amen!

Miscellaneous Fabric Storage Magic!
I haven't been sewing a lot these days, instead I've gone back to my "comfort activites" - crocheting and organizing. Indeed they have brought me great comfort!

I'll share more about crocheting later, but for now, here's how I store part of my fabric.  I shared how I store my yardage and some strips for RSC 2017 here.

This 10 drawer system is fabulous - lots of storage space that takes up minimal square footage!

Here's where I store my "One day I'll make a black and white quilt" fabric!

Here's my Christmas hand sewing projects.  Do you see that gingerbread man ornament?  Those were on last year's gifts.

This drawer is my
"Charms" drawer filled with fabric
to be cut into charms -
perfect for hexagons -

as well as pre-cut charms!

I love me some "candy"
or mini charms!
My daughter uses them to plan her quilts
and I just admire them!
How do you use your 2 1/2" squares?

My yo-yo maker drawer!
I love making yo-yos!

I hope you enjoyed this peek into 5 of the ten drawers!  More to come later!
