The Blessing of a Quilt.

My husband is sick right now, so my time has been devoted to him.  I'll continue this study as he improves.  It's not serious, praise God!  He just needs some TLC.  😊


Perhaps you are so tired of seeing this quilt, but I have one more story to share and it will be illustrated with the various blocks of my Victory Quilt.

The Blessing of a Quilt
I have always felt in my heart that when I give an afghan/quilt to someone, I'm blessing them because I've prayed for them as I create. Not the entire time I'm creating, but I do pray for them.  




While my husband and I were in the Emergency Room yesterday, God was raising up prayer warriors.  One of them was Rebekkah Guider (heaven_on_art). Other than liking and commenting on posts, we really don't even know each other!   Do me a favor and check her out - she's amazing!

She gave me permission to share our conversation, so I go forward with joy and confidence.  


She gave me a new

perspective on quilt the quilt I made my husband:

"He (my husband) was and is your covering...but, 

the intricate quilt you made him

is from Jesus.  

It represents that you cover him as well.

That you hold his heart

and care for him...

that you cover him with prayers."

I needed those words for a few reasons.

I tend to see how others give to me, but I don't always see how I give to others.

My dear reader, 

be encouraged!

Know that whatever 

quilt, afghan, even a charity quilt block 

you give 

is a covering of your love and 

blessing on the recipient.  

It doesn't matter if 

they truly appreciate your gift 

because they are already covered by love.

Quilters, 

crocheters, 

knitters, 

weavers, 

creators of coverings,

our gifts are 

covering the world

with love.

By the way,

all you bloggers out there

who so generously share your tutorials,

are contributing to this!

Thank you, LORD, 

for this revelation

and encouragement.

I pray I never doubt and 

always remain humble

by the opportunities You give me

to cover Your children with love -

SCRIPTURE

OBSERVATION

God so exalted His Son because of His obedience even unto death on they cross, that even now, so many years later, every knee will eventually bow - in all realms- to His name.  Wow.




APPLICATION
Yesterday we received some terrible news. I have a sweet, gentle friend who found out that one of her childhood friends is sick.

Her family, friends and loved ones are 
broken,
scared,
hurt,
and perhaps even angry.

Why?

Their 

mother,

wife,

grandma,

friend

is dying.

Shes was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Today the doctors are operating.
But they've already said 
she won't be going home.
Until she goes Home.

How does someone even wrap their heads around this idea?!

I just went to the funeral of a friend 
who died from this same disease.

And then I read Philippians 2:10.......
how does this verse and these events 
even relate?

I was watching a movie, "Born to Win".  After experiencing several major life challenges, the protagonist loses his faith in God.  I understood him. 


Years ago, I was there. 




But today, 
when I saw that part of the movie, 
my knee bowed before the King of Kings, my big brother, Jesus, 
the name above all names.

As a survivor and fellow human being, 
my heart hurts for my friends, loved ones, acquaintances who 
are dealing with cancer,
who have lost loved ones to cancer, 
who have yet to be diagnosed with cancer.

BUT 

I 

REFUSE 

TO 

LOSE 

MY 

FAITH 

BECAUSE

OF

CANCER.

I'm angry, hurting  and hopeful

for these precious people.

Where there is life, there is hope.

My dear reader, this is my truth.

TO DO TUESDAY

Yup.
That about sums up my Tuesday To Do List from last week!



- work one hour on my Embroidery Around the House project
Done! 

- Make my $7.50 block Done!









- pull purple fabric for the RSC DONE!  Also pulled fabric for the Covered in Love Blocks!  

- pull fabric for a Snail Quilt (more about that later!)  This one has been postponed.

- Make 5 more blocks for the Simple Scrappy Sampler  Nope.  But I've cut out about 7 squares!

- make the last of the grey hand warmers  Nope - didn't even touch it!

- Work at least one hour on the Hexagon Afghan Nope - didn't even touch it!

My "squirrel" was two cool Quilt Block Books!  I'll be sharing those tomorrow!  They will really facilitate taking my projects to my Quilting Bee!  

In line with my goal of finishing UFOs, my next Tuesday To Do List is fairly simple:

January 24 - 31, 2017
My First Priority
- Support my friend as she supports her childhood friend and her family.  
- Finish cutting and piecing the blocks for the Simple Scrappy Sampler.  This is my OMG, and the month is quickly coming to a close!  Where did January go?  This quilt will probably go on to be my February OMG!  

- Add at least 40 hexies to my Hexagon afghan.

- Make my RSC and Covered in Love Blocks!

Philippians 2;1b. Day 7, Gift 7

Philippians 2:1a (Part 4)

SCRIPTURE

OBSERVATION

Tonight I’m focusing on

“if any comfort

from His love,

if any common sharing

in the Spirit,

if any tenderness and compassion”.

Philippians 2:1b

I just noticed the order of these words:

encouragement

comfort

common sharing

tenderness

compassion.

It’s almost the steps we go through when we first give our lives to Christ.

Many will encourage us in our new walk.

Then, as we become hurt or possibly confused by trials, we receive comfort.

Then, we learn unity.

Finally, as we mature, tenderness and compassion become definite parts of our very being. 

But first

we are in situations that require

encouragement and comfort.

That spells trials to me.

Then, as we receive encouragement and comfort, we begin to learn the value of unity because other’s united to encourage and comfort us!

Finally, we learn to show tenderness and compassion.

It’s a journey, a walk with Christ. 

APPLICATION

I can only say that I cannot imagine not having

ANY

encouragement

comfort from Jesus’ love,

or unity

in the Spirit,

or tenderness

and compassion.

Readers, today yet another dear friend –

who has survived breast cancer multiple times - told me that during a completed unrelated medical emergency, CT scans revealed a lesion on her kidney. 

As I type these words, I’m thinking, 

“Really, LORD?  Really?  How many friends diagnosed with cancer does this make in the last two months?  Six? Seven?  And two of them are terminal.”

But, then this Scripture popped into my head:

And I realized:

I’m focusing on

how very big the problem is,

and

it is huge.

No doubt about it.

BUT

I need to be focusing

on how very big my God is.

And He’s big.

Really big.

Really Really Big.

So, my dear friends, 

Hold on.

Hold tight.

And just be held.

Just. Be. Held.  

PRAYER

Father God,

You are huge.  

You are powerful.

You are wise.

Please take these big, painful, scary problems and squash them like a bug.

And, Father?  

Please encourage and comfort my friends.

Please bring unity to their families, friends, and doctors that they make work as a team to have the victory!

Please let Your love, tenderness and compassion be the rule in each of their situations.

In Your precious Son’s name I pray.

Amen.

Day 7, Gift 7

So, I’ve been doing a lot of cutting out felt and slow stitching on my grandbabies felt lunch.  It would make for boring pictures, so, I’m going to show you something I made a while ago. 

My husband and I were “shopping” in my gift tote.  Most of us have one.  It’s a tote filled with projects we’ve made throughout the year as gifts. 

My husband chose who would receive this tote. 

And I agreed. 

It’s a perfect choice.

He’s pretty smart, my man is. 

Here’s the post where I wrote about it.  It was a practice block for the $7.50 BOM held in Las Cruces, NM by Bernina Sewing and Design.  I had never made a Drunkard’s Path block before, so I made a practice block 

and then turned it into a tote.

So here you go:  Day 7, Gift 7.

Side note: I wrote this Bible study up a couple of days ago for tonight.  A friend called me from another city.  She is in deep crisis.  We've been on the phone and texting for several hours.  This study fits her situation perfectly.  God knew.  He always does.  Please pray for her!

12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, ^b that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. 

Interesting:  “what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel.” 

Many times, when we hear, “Can I get a testimony?”, we hear people tell of how God has worked to miraculously worked out a situation and answered prayers. 

God is always working out situations.

God is always answering prayers.

But sometimes

It’s

Not

The

Answer

We

Expected

Or

Wanted.

12Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters,

^b that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel.

Those test results show disease.

God heals us or a loved one in Heaven rather than here on Earth.

The pain is inflicted.

The tragedy occurs.

Then what?

I have seen and experienced 
many things that shook my faith.

I even walked away from God for a period.

BUT, I have come to learn that indeed

I’m not saying it’s easy

To experience or even understand.

I am saying it’s real.

Now, as crisis, pain, hurt, illness

Occur,

Or

As unexpected memories

Suddenly flood my brain,

In the midst of my tears,

I am learning

To pray for my will

And then 

pray,                                                      

“Not my will but Yours.”

will serve to advance the gospel.
Please strengthen and enourage us!
