Philippians
1:9 -11 (Part 1)
9 And this is my prayer:
that your love
may abound more and more
in knowledge
and depth of
insight,
10 so that you may be able to
discern
what is best
and may be pure
and blameless
for the day of
Christ,
11 filled with the fruit of
righteousness
that comes
through Jesus Christ—
to the glory and
praise of God.
How many times have I read these verses – yet
not read
them?
not seen them?
not saturated in them?
Thank God His timing is perfect and He has
given me the opportunity at this time in my life to do just that! All the other times I’ve read these same
words, I gleaned something else from His love letter to me – and, by the way,
to you.
But now,
it’s like He’s saying,
“Come on, Daughter, let’s play!
Let’s look at my Word another way!
Those other times you’ve read these words,
I showed you what you needed at that
time.
Now, I want to show you something different
In a whole new way!”
Come on, Daughter, let’s play!”
My dear Father, let’s begin!
Scripture:
9 And this is my
prayer:
that your love
may abound more and more
in knowledge
and depth of
insight,
10 so that you may be able to
discern
what is best
and may be pure
and blameless
for the day of
Christ,
11 filled with the fruit of
righteousness
that comes
through Jesus Christ—
to the glory and
praise of God.
Observation: I just cannot see separating these three verses
into three distinct parts this time around.
I see “9And this is my prayer:” as a great lead in! Can’t you just visualize the Philippians ears
perked up, leaning forward in anticipation to hear what Paul’s prayer for them
would be? What he actually prays with
joy, thankfulness and confidence for them?
Application: I certainly know that when someone tells me, “This
is what I prayed for you,” or “I pray the LORD Jesus…..”, my own ears perk
up.
I’m
reminded of 1 John 5:14,
Certainly,
He hears us, but what if we are uncertain of His will? Our will, my will is that He would
heal on
this earth rather than taking my loved one to heaven where there is no illness?
give good
test results instead of allowing me to go through the fire to grow in grace and
mercy?
Which is
why, after going through triple negative breast cancer, I am increasingly learning
to say at the end of my prayer, “But Your will be done.”
Yes, it can
be difficult to pray this, but,
dear Friend,
I know that when we will victoriously
come out on
the other side,
it will be worth it.
Might there
be pain?
Yup.
Might there
be tears?
Yup.
Might there
be victory?
Always.
Prayer
9 And this is my
prayer:
that your love
may abound more and more
in knowledge
and depth of
insight,
10 so that you may be able to
discern
what is best
and may be pure
and blameless
for the day of
Christ,
11 filled with the fruit of
righteousness
that comes
through Jesus Christ—
to the glory and
praise of God.By the way, isn't this a great prayer for our children?
Quilty Fun Today.
Today I'm linking up at Linky Tuesdays at Freemotion by the River and To Do List Tuesdays at Stitch All The Things!
These babies are sewn up! Now I just need to sew them into rows!
The resulting circles from the Drunkards' Path blocks are ready to be sew, stabilized and attached to their squares!
I goofed on some of my cutting and ended up with extra circles....it was a "sign". So I'm jumping into the Quilty 365 Journey!
Here's this week's To Do List:
1) Bind these two quilts
2) Finish the last two rows of this afghan! Hopefully, I'll attach them next week!
Dear Friends, this is my truth!

ReplyDeleteThank you so much. By ears ago my daughter used this fabric for a baby quilt for a dear friend. I was able to make this bonus quilt! Your encouragement means so much to this "newish" quilter. ;)
DeleteLove your drunkard's path with that dia de los muertos fabric! I, too, love those verses from Phillippians, and was interested in what you had to say about them. I think the only way we learn to say, and to MEAN, thy will be done is to go through the adversity and the trials and be called to remember that our Lord loves us and that all things are for our good. There is no growth without struggle, and we know the final outcome for all of us, if we follow Christ. I know that sometimes I want what I want, but I've learned to say, "But if not ...." and bend my will. Most of the time. =)
ReplyDeleteI love drunkard's path. Yum.. Thank you for sharing the bible verse with us. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you! I'm really enjoying this BOM! You're so welcome re the Bible verse! Thank you for the encouragement!
DeleteOh Susan! I agree with you so much! Before my adversities, I just didn't "get it", but now I do! Your comments are much appreciated! HUGS!!!
