Thank you to all who stopped by last week and commented on my grandson's cooking. He was so tickled to read your comments!
After a wonderful two weeks of Spring Break sharing time with my grandkids with their paternal grandpa, it's time to find my rhythm again.
HERE'S A WORD - Faith...broken faith...faltering faith. Here I will share a Scripture about these topics. No judgement, only love.
This week's devotional has been replaced by technological difficulties as well as the sad circumstances in my city.
We had an incident of what's been described as a mass shooting and gang violenced (depending on your view). I'm sure everyone would appreciate your prayers. I ask for your prayers for my city of Las Cruces, NM.
On America's Got Talent, Lola Wilson from Wilson Phillips sang a beautiful song, Rainbow by Kacey Musgraves. If you fast forward the video to 2:52, you'll see Lola singing.
I have to believe there's hope, I just have to believe that. This isn't the time for debates, politics or division. It's the time for grieving, unity.
FIBER FUN
Crochet: During our Spring Break weeks, time for fiber fun has been limited to crocheting the bands and attaching them to the final set of hangers for my daughter.
Hand Embroidery/English Paper Piecing: I am so excited! I finally took the leap on my first sewing subscription box: a hexagon quilt as you go hosted by Intrepid Threads Fields of Fancy! Here's the start block one of I believe are six blocks for month one.
Here's what came in the kit. The fabric with a child and garden is meant to be fussy cut. The floral fabrics are 6 fat 1/16ths of Liberty Tana Lawn. We have the templates and a plastic template for the flower petals. We have a preprinted sheet of fabric that we can use as the floral centers, the floss, the paper pieces for the petals, binding clips, Tulip needles and an embroidery hoop.
For me, it's quite the splurge and I'm not sure I can keep up every month. Just the same, I've decided to simply enjoy the process.
I've also registered for a second hand stitching BOM starting this August and hosted by Be Sew Creative, our LQS. It is Flower Box Friends.
LITERARY LIFE -
CURRENT READS

*****I did not realize Charles Martin is a Christian fiction author, I just knew his Chasing Fireflies was a five-star read. When Crickets Cry is another five star read. The ending surprised me - for obvious reasons if you read it. But also the plot ending...and then there was a "what did Jesus write" moment at the end as well. The plot flowed, the characters are likeable, the twists are many and wisdom is interjected throughout. Highly recommend both the book and the author!
*****I tried one of Anne Tyler's books years ago and DNF'd it. But, A Patchwork Planet was a definite 5 star read! The discussion of the elderly, society's view on criminals and the ending - oh that ending! Highly recommend!
FINDING JOY - LeeAnna's I Like on Thursdays at Not Afraid of Color helps me consistently find the joy in every life. She also provides a prompt for us to use.
This week's prompt is: What was it like being the oldest/youngest/middle/only child of the family?
I was the second oldest of four in my birth family. My brothers were "the favored ones", as is common in most Latino families. We were all abused in one form or fashion (or more). Luckily, my parents divorced and my daddy married a wonderful lady. Later I became a "big sister" when my baby sister was born. I had yearned for for a baby sister and here she was! Finally! We are all very close and love each to the moon and back.
I really liked Nancy's from Readerbuzz list of books that inspire her to be a better person.

New Mexico has been in the news lately. Hope things get back to normal soon. The Anne Tyler book looks interesting.
ReplyDeleteShootings. I can't comprehend how people can shoot other people. I am very sad for Las Cruces.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking about starting a crochet project with big yarn and simple stitches. My cataracts are becoming more and more of a problem for small stitches.
Those rope bags are really pretty!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a happy reading week
I am so sorry about the community shootings and the fact they were so young is just tragic.
ReplyDeleteYour projects are so pretty, looks like you are having lots of joy in your processes.
How blessed you were to have your father remarry and give you a loving environment and baby sister! It is sweet that you are close to your family and have that love to share.
Great selection of books. I enjoyed Flight of Dreams - I had never thought of those kind of flight machines. Imagine flying in one. I haven't liked Anne Tyler's books but maybe I should look up A Patchwork Planet.
ReplyDeleteIt is hard to hear of the shootings, it is such a tragedy! Our hope isn't in this world, but the one to come. All we can do is pray for those involved, spread joy and kindness, and not engage in the debates and such. Try to be a light in the dark world.
