At the same time, David reminds his advisers that God observes and examines "the sons of men"—all of us. If some are wicked, yes, God will rain down fiery coals and burning sulfur. I wondered about this and learned that fiery coals are a symbol for purification, much like fire purifies metal. Sulfur, I learned, represents God's justice and destruction. I was reminded of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19:24).
So, what can the righteous do when facing difficult situations? Admittedly, there have been times when I was confused and hurt, yet still seeking Him. To be honest, my naysayers were almost successful in getting me to "run for the hills." Then I remembered who God is and He has told me the battle is His! (2 Chronicles 20:15)
After a time studying, I realized Psalm 11 is a spiritual battle: faith vs. fear. In David’s case, he chose faith, looked at his naysayers, and essentially said, "Are you nuts? I take refuge in God! He is my protector! He will deal with the wickedness that is threatening my life!"
In all of this, let us remember Ephesians 6:12 (my husband's favorite verse):
Let us follow David's example and choose faith over fear. Let us believe that God is our refuge. And then, let us also pray for the salvation of our naysayers and any lost souls in our situation. Oh, my dear reader, that last bit is hard... believe me, I know. But it is also freeing.
You are loved. You are not alone. You are being lovingly prayed for.

I look forward to seeing pictures of your sewing room! I am sorry you have been in a reading slump, I hope your current read pulls you out of it. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThose women have gone through a lot and come through it. Seeing these stories reminds me that all people are going through many things that we sometimes don't even know about, and I need to listen and be a person of love.
ReplyDeleteI am glad your sewing room is coming along nicely.
DeleteIt sounds like you have been very busy. I hope your grandson is having a wonderful ball season. Aren't the games so much fun to watch? Mine is playing too. Our weather dipped back down into the 60's and 70's this week so yes that meant blankets at the ball field. Your EPP looks wonderful. Such pretty fabrics you are working with and you made great progress on Darth Vader. I wish you a wonderful week. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteI think our 'hobbies' go in ebbs and flows. The reading part will come back once a book catches your attention. My audible recommended a free series with real people reading it (I dislike the virtual voice). If you like a mystery - this one is England around WW2 timeframe. It's called the Homefront Sleuths Mysteries. Hope you have a good week.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your faithful explanations of the Psalms. We are nearly done studying the Psalms of Ascent (120-134), then I'm not sure what we will study next.

Look at all the pretty colors and nice books this week. Weather has been weird here, too. Hope you enjoy your week.

How nice you've had some cooler temps, and congrats on your continued sewing room organization. It really helps doesn't it! Your books look interesting, I might have to add a couple to my wishlist. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteLove those Limitless Ladies cards!
ReplyDeleteWow, those women are impressive! Thanks for sharing!
