July 27: intro, Psalm 23:4 Part Two, Fiber Fun, Literary Life, Finding Joy

Hello There,

Thank you for stopping in!  Well, I broke one of my main blogging rules: I always save my posts on a backup post just in case.  Guess what happened?  Yup.  I didn't, and it's gone!  Well, the second time around might be better!

Life continues to be active with grandkids, swimming, learning to shop for the Mediterranean Diet, and a bit of time with friends.  We made happy memories and tried new foods at our potluck.

You'll find the second part of last week's devotional on Psalm 23:4, I achieved most of my goals, established new goals, and I'll be sharing about a YouTuber who has revolutionized maintenance on my home!

Take good care and as Daddy says, "Make memories, it's later than you think."

HERE'S A WORD
Faith...broken faith...faltering faith.  Here, I will share a Scripture about these topics.  No judgement, only love.
Last week I shared what I learned from A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller about the rod. Writing last week's post was a joy as I recalled my valley and how God brought me through.
Keller wrote that where the rod's main purpose is for defense, the staff is used to care and manage the sheep.  Imagine this:  it is a symbol of love, concern, gentle guidance and support as the shepherd leans on it.

In my dark valley, I sensed Him waiting for me.  Perhaps He was indeed using His staff for all of the above purposes.  All I really know and believe is that He loved me through it even as He listened to my anger-filled, frustrated prayers.  He heard my hurt and was showing love and concern as He guided me back to Him.  Just when I was ready to give up, He showed up with power, love and mercy.
He'll do the same to you.  Be honest with Him; He knows your heart anyway.  He still loves you.
I pray for you to be restored, healed and know this:
You are loved.  You are not alone.  You are being lovingly prayed for.

Here's the story behind the song.

FIBER FUN
I broke down my "To Dos" into three categories: Finish, Focus, Prep/make a kit, and Be Kind = Soft Deadlines.  FoF stands for the Fields of Fancy BOM I’m taking part in, using Liberty of London Tana Lawn fabrics.
Last Week's List
1.  Finish - I've pulled out this "What is Love" cross stitch I made for my husband.  I finished it back in the 80s!  It's high time to add a border to it and take it in for framing.  NOT DONE, I'll be using a mat instead of a fabric border.  Once my hubby is feeling better, we'll pick one.
2.  Focus -
Fields of Fancy (FoF) BOM by Intrepid Thread - Prep the applique pieces for the six hexies DONE! I actually prepped seven hexies!  Yay!

My sewing room was a mess, but thanks to the YouTuber you'll read about in the Finding Joy section, it only took me five minutes to put it in order!
Atlas Zipper Case - Day 2:  make bias binding DONE!  I've learned that many quilters use bias binding on their quilts.  Do you?  I'd love to hear your thoughts.

3.   Prepare/make a kit
- As many of you have probably noticed, I love organizers for hand sewing projects! Truth be told, it's a bit of an addiction. I purchased this Jet Set Sewing Station kit by Jessie months ago, and it popped out of my "Finish" box begging for me to at least do a fabric pull.  DONE! Here is the fabric I'll be using!  This is what Jessie Finchman's finished product looks like!

4. Be kind = Soft Deadlines - which are good for my mental health!

This Week's List
1.  Finish - My next finish, an EasyPiecing Grid panel, will actually take two weeks.  It's The Flower Pot by Louise Kraft.  I will continue searching for a link and will post one if I find it.
2.  Focus
Fields of Fancy (FoF) BOM by Intrepid Thread - Baste the EPP pieces and bind one Acufactum hexagon.
Atlas Zipper Case - Day 3:  Assembling the tall vinyl pocket
3.   Prepare/make a kit   I'll continue preparing the Jet Set Sewing Station kit by cutting the pieces out.  There are a lot of them, but the reviews state that is worthwhile.  I think you'll agree after seeing this photo above.
4. Be kind = Soft Deadlines - which are good for my mental health!

LITERARY LIFE -
CURRENT READS

FINISHED

***** My youngest grandsons encouraged me to read The Wild Robot series.  I listened to it on Libby and loved it!  Adults and children alike would enjoy following Roz on her adventures!  Highly recommend!

MAILBOX MONDAY - is a gathering place for readers to share books that they
added to their shelves or eBook readers the previous week.
Our aunt taught me about ereaderiq.com which offers free/for purchase eBooks.  I set my filters to free and have picked up several eBooks.

FINDING JOY LeeAnna's I Like on Thursdays at Not Afraid of Color helps me consistently find the joy in every life.  She also provides a prompt for us to use.  This week's prompt is:  Do you like particular foods for summer dinners? Do you use a recipe or combine whatever ingredients you have on hand? Summertime means tons of salads with as many variations as I can come up with!  We usually add air fryer cooked chicken for the protein.  We enjoy a variety of smoothies with whatever ingredients are in the fridge.  I just discovered delicious green smoothies!

Dana K. White's YouTube channel has changed the way I "clean up" after making a creative mess, look at containers and think about decluttering.  After finishing with a fiber arts project, I now set a five-minute timer to clean up.  Surprisingly, I not only come away with a clean area, but usually have time to spot clean the entire room.  Due to the five minute limit, I am more focused and efficient.  She produces short 10 minute videos along with longer ones.  I listen to the former as I get ready for the day and usually come away with an easily implemented routine.

This week I made a delicious raspberry/mint infused water.
Many years ago, a dear friend introduced our family to The Neverending Story movie.  One of my favorite characters was Rock Biter.  This week we introduced it to my grandsons!
This cute little pup kept looking for the source of water on the beach.  Little did he understand it was right in front of him.
