Ezekiel 36:27, Fiber Fun, Literary Life, Finding Joy

Hello There,

Thank you for stopping by!    It was another busy week with more doctor appointments, gatherings with friends and various sewing groups.  Toward the end of the week I caught a cold, hence today's late publication.  I'm taking care of myself and know I'll feel better soon.  Mama tells me it takes a good 7 days to feel right as rain, so I'm looking forward to that.  

Fall is in the air!  I'm looking forward to making my yummy pumpkin quick bread, soups and stews!  

I love reading your thoughts and coversing with you via email.  I'm behind in responding and visits, but am slowly getting back in the groove of routine.  Looking forwared to your visits and visiting  you!  

Take good care and, as Daddy used to say, 

"Make memories; it's later than you think."

HERE'S A WORD 

Last week we talked about how God will give us a new heart as well as a new spirit.  Not only that, He will remove our heart of stone! 

Imagine my excitement when I read the next verse, Ezekiel 36:27!  God will put His own Spirit in us!  This will cause us to walk in His statutes (His laws) and actively keep His ordinances.

But what does this mean?  From what I understand after visiting gotquestions, statutes and ordinances are God's laws and only that.  We don't add to them or subtract from them as the Pharisees did.  There's a tremendous difference.  God's law is meant to help us and guide us, not be a Pharisaical burden. 

But we're not alone in achieving this: He will put His Spirit in us to help us walk, keep and do His will.  Let us not be blinded, but open our eyes, our hearts, our entire being to His Word and Spirit that we may please our precious Father.  

FIBER FUN

I broke down my "To Dos" into three categories:  Finish, Focus, Prep/make a kit, and Be Kind = Soft Deadlines.  FoF represents the Fields of Fancy BOM, which I'm doing with Liberty of London Tana Lawn fabrics.  FBF represents the Flower Box Friends BOM

Last Week's List

1.  Finish

- at least one of the vertical organizers Not done!  

2.  Focus

- FoF BOM Applique one prepped hexie and bind another Acufactum hexie.  Partially Done!  I did manage to bind two and practice my hand quilting on one.  

- FBF: Finish appliquéing a section of the Bleeding heart block onto background.  Done!  This week I worked on the flowers.  

3.   Prepare/make a kit- 

- I have picked up an ornament panel at Be Sew Creative. I'd like to prep at least 6 ornaments Done!  Aren't they so pretty?

4. Be kind = Soft Deadlines - which are good for my mental health!

LITERARY LIFE   

I love how my focus has increased with the "Finish, Focus and Prep" methodology I use with my Fiber Arts.  Consequently, I'm going to apply that to my reading life with a bit of a twist.  The categories will be "Finish, Focus and Next".  

This should help with my "Backburner Reads" which are books I started, enjoyed, but lost focus.

***** The Book Club for Troublesome Women is another winner by Marie Bostwick as it gives the reader a clear snapshot of a culture which dictates a stifling life for women, their awakening and new lives.  The era is in the 1960's, the setting is a "planned community" in which women are to conform to society's expectation being the perfect housewife.  After our four lovable protagonists read an enlightening book regarding their roles as women, will they discover themselves, their dreams, their path?  More importantly, will they find the courage to take the steps to be their authentic selves or be trapped in the culture of the "planned community" in which they live?

I enjoyed Marie Bostwick's series, The Cobbled Court Quilts, and was excited to review her latest work.  Bostwick used a medium-slow pace initially as she clearly described the culture in which the ladies lived that suppressed their authentic selves, relegating them to being "perfect housewives".  After that, she picked up the pace to reveal the ladies' enthusiasm - and trepidation - as they experienced growth, confidence and their new beginnings.  Did their families support these changes?  How did they initiate such a change?  Bostwick demonstrated the one key necessary to affect change and enrich our culture and society.  

I also gained a deeper understanding of my mother, as well as the women who were part of my childhood, many of whom were strong and outspoken.  No wonder I saw underlying frustration and even deep-seated anger in them.  They were part of an era that suppressed their dreams, the core of who they were. I discovered a new compassion and appreciation for the female forerunners of history who have fought the fight and paid the price to pave our way.  Highly recommend!

FINDING JOY

Do you still rake fallen leaves or just use a blower to clear them?  Our eldest grandson takes care of our yard starting this year.  I'm not sure how he'll do it, we have several blowers and rakes.  Funny story, years ago we had a funny dog named Rusty.  He was so playful and one of his favorite games was jumping in piles of leaves and snapping at them, until...yup...he got a mouthful of his own poop!  He shook his head, stunned, then he looked at me so hurt and confused!  Needless to say, that was the end of his game.  😉
