2 COR 4:3-4: Remove the blinders! Literary Life, Fiber Fun

Hello There,

Thank you for stopping by!    I hope you all had a fun week!  Is fall in the air in your part of the world?  My last two weeks have been filled with doctor appointments, reading and crafting.  I did spend a day and a half in bed after an endoscopy.  Thank goodness all results are normal!  

My husband has been a dear, taking over chores and spoiling me with special treats.  Have you tried Helados de Mexico in the pecan flavor?  I highly recommend them.  Just remember, they're like Lays Potatoe Chips, "You can't eat just one!"  

Take good care and, as Daddy used to say, 

"Make memories; it's later than you think."

HERE'S A WORD

As I read Tozer's devotional for January 22, 2 Corinthians 4:4 struck a cord within my heart, even more so when I read the same verse in the Amplified Version.  We often, perhaps even daily pray for our loved ones, friends and others to receive Christ as their Savior.  At least for myself, I have never prayed for the scales, the blindness caused by the defeated one to be lifted.  How did I miss this?  

Either way, let us add this to our prayer for our unsaved loved ones, and yes, for ourselves as well. May theirs's and our spirits be attuned to the Holy Spirit 24/7.   May the blindness or even dulling of our eyes, be removed in Jesus' name.  

Please know this:  

You are loved.  You are not alone.  You are being lovingly prayed for.

FIBER FUN

I broke down my "To Dos" into three categories:  Finish, Focus, Prep/make a kit, and Be Kind = Soft Deadlines.  FoF represents the Fields of Fancy BOM, which I'm doing with Liberty of London Tana Lawn fabrics.  FBF represents the Flower Box Friends BOM

Last Week's List

1.  Finish

-  Vertical Organizer #1 Done!  This is definitely a prototype, but it came out pretty good!  Two more to go!  

UPDATE:  Here's is the tutorial by Rhonda Bus that I followed.  

2.  Focus

- FoF BOM Applique one prepped hexie and bind another Acufactum hexie Done!  I already showed you the first hexagon, but I needed to add the middle mini yo-yo.  

- FBF: Finish appliquéing another section of the Bleeding heart block onto background.  Done! This week I chose to work on the leaves.  

- Psalm 23 Done!  I finished stitching "my Sheperd" and "in want".  Not wanting to move my hoop again, I started backwards on the second verse.  :)

- My 1st grandson's ornament  Done!  I stopped in the middle of this project, so it was confusing.  I'm figuring it out.    

3.   Prepare/make a kit

- red ornament done!  I went ahead and prepped all the ornaments for stitching them for adding possible embellishments and stitching them together.  

- FoF Done! It takes two weeks to fully prep the EPP pieces.  

This Week's goals - After this week, my main focus will be on Christmas sewing!

- Bleeding heart block 

2.  Focus

- Grandson's #1 ornament

- FBF - the Poinsettia block 

- sew embellishments on the red and white Christmas ornaments.

3.   Prepare/make a kit

- Grandson's #2 ornament

4. Be kind = Soft Deadlines - which are good for my mental health!

LITERARY LIFE   

I love how my focus has increased with the "Finish, Focus and Prep" methodology I use with my Fiber Arts.  Consequently, I'm going to apply that to my reading life with a bit of a twist.  The categories will be "Finish, Focus and Next".  

This should help with my "Backburner Reads" which are books I started, enjoyed, but lost focus.

***** Isabel Cañas wrote a fabulous historical novel about the United States invasion of Mexico in 1846.  She focused on a ranch called Los Ojuelos, bright or cheerful eyes.  The protagonists are Nena, the patron's daughter and Néster, the son of a respected vaquero.  Their love could never work out due to class differences.  As the Yanquis and the Rinches, Texas Rangers, invaded Mexico, we learn about how the rancheros united to save their lifestyle and homeland.  

Mexican lore is filled with supernatural happenings and is a huge part of our culture.  I recall my grandfather telling me stories about experiences he had in his youth.  The title is a play on words which surprised me.  Of course vampires were part of the story, but the Yanquis and Rinches were the vampires of the north.  Both, suck the life out of their victims.  

This was a rare time when I read a hard copy book in a day and a half.  The pace was fast and the characters were fully developed.  I learned ever more about my culture and history.  Isabel Cañas is a Mexican-American author with a PhD in  Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations as well as an international traveler.  She is influenced by her heritage and family lore.  Very Highly Recommend.

FINDING JOY

LeeAnna's I Like on Thursdays at Not Afraid of Color helps me consistently find the joy in every life.  She also provides a prompt for us to use.  This week's prompt is:  Will you hand out candy this year? What kind? Will you wear a costume or something funny like cat ears or tiara or face mask?  

We don't hand out candy, but we do prepare treat bags for our grandchildren.  They will have candy and some useful items and some sillty toys.  My daughter and granddaughter wear cat ears and whiskers while the boys wear a costume.  It's really fun!
