Hello There,
- Grandson's #2 ornament Done!
- FBF - the Poinsettia block: Appliqué the leaves onto the background Done!
- sew embellishments on the red and white Christmas ornaments. Done! It's hard to see the beads, but they're there!
- Nothing at all! Everything is already prepped and part of "Focus".
3. Prepare/make a kit- My main goals are my grandchildren's ornaments, which are all prepped. So, I'll spend time stitching for now.
4. Be kind = Soft Deadlines - which are good for my mental health!
I love how my focus has increased with the "Finish, Focus and Prep" methodology I use with my Fiber Arts. Consequently, I'm going to apply that to my reading life with a bit of a twist. The categories will be "Finish, Focus and Next".
This should help with my "Backburner Reads" which are books I started, enjoyed, but lost focus.

Best of luck to you in finding your path in advocating for literacy. It is a sad thing for our nation. Sadly it has been going on far longer than folks realize. When I did my practice teaching in math, I was appalled at how junior high students could not do simple math. No wonder they were lost in algebra! Perhaps their reading skills had something to do with it.
ReplyDeleteIf you could see the state of my floss collection, you would weep. The sight of your beautifully organized boxes is inspiring me!
Wow, those numbers are shocking and very sad to me. I checked and where I live it's 23.7%.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a school librarian, I was delighted to see how many adults would participate in a program to read to their children. We had many programs like that, and we found that adults who did so became better readers, and, of course, their children greatly benefited. One of the programs is a fairly new one, 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.
ReplyDeletePerhaps your local library could advise you of a literacy program looking for volunteers, or The Read "Write" Adult Literacy Program in NM is one option. Good luck with your search.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your supplies. I’ve just bought my daughter a bunch of cross stitching supplies for Christmas, the only thing I’m having trouble finding is left handed thread scissors (as opposed to normal left handed scissors).
Wishing you a happy reading week.
I missed our library sale, which is probably for the best, LOL, with us moving soon. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of "Be Kind- with the soft deadlines" especially this time of year with all of the hustle and bustle. It can wear on one for sure. Your grandson's finished ornament is adorable and I loved seeing how you set up your stitching kits. Have a very Happy Thanksgiving. Hugs and Blessings.
ReplyDeleteYoda looks delightful! It sounds fun to have a whole set of Stars Wars ornaments. I don't exactly have a slow stitching kit - more like a "station" right next to my comfy chair. The table holds a pincushion with pins, needles, and the current floss I'm using for a project. But on the floor there are two floss organizers and a tub that collects spools of thread and other stuff. It's kind of messy, but hidden between my chair and the wall, so no one sees it but me!
ReplyDeleteLove your grandson's ornament!
ReplyDeleteWow! What progress you made! Love the first ornament in your post! I'm listening to "The Anxious Generation" by Jonathon Haidt. It is a listen that has caused me to pause and reflect. I don't have an answer regarding the literacy; but, I hope you find a path that is successful. As for your floss, I am impressed. I especially liked the way you displayed your thread chart!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
